They signed a Memorandum of Understanding with joint actions aimed at strengthening research and education in the fields of data management and digital archives.
Enaon, a member of the Italgas Group, and the University of West Attica (UNIWA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), marking the beginning of an important collaboration with the purpose of highlighting the history and heritage linked to the development of natural gas in Greece. The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by the Rector of the University of West Attica, Professor Panagiotis E. Kaldis, and the CEO of Enaon, Ms. Barbara Morgante.
«UNIWA is a dynamic and continuously developing University, an ecosystem of knowledge driven by a vision to deliver high-quality education. It operates in accordance with contemporary academic principles, drawing its comparative advantage from the technological legacy of its predecessor institutions and its strong engagement with social stakeholders and the business community. Through modern academic programmes that address the evolving needs of the labour market, the University places particular emphasis on fostering collaborative networks with businesses. This enables its students to acquire the essential competencies that only practical experience can provide. Combined with a robust scientific foundation, these skills lead to high-quality employment and offer prospects for continuous professional advancement» stated the Rector of the University of West Attica, Professor Panagiotis E. Kaldis.
The CEO of Enaon, Ms. Barbara Morgante, underlined: “The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding with the University of West Attica is part of a set of initiatives undertaken by Enaon, leveraging the expertise of our mother company Italgas, aiming to highlight the history and heritage related to the development of natural gas in Greece. Our role extends beyond the development and management of natural gas distribution infrastructure, contributing to the enhancement of cultural identity and the support of local communities.”
The project will be carried out under the collaboration with the University of West Attica, while drawing on the expertise of the Italgas Heritage Lab in Turin -a unique laboratory of digital innovation that plays a pivotal role in preserving Italgas’ vast archival heritage and disseminating knowledge widely. With more than 3 LKM of documents, 600 scientific and technical objects, and a library of 10,000 publications, the Italgas Heritage Lab was created to transform history into a living and accessible experience, combining heritage, digital innovation, and social responsibility.
Specifically, within the framework of the MoU, the two parties agreed to collaborate with the aim of promoting research and educational activities related to the history of natural gas, through the management of data and digital archive content, while also supporting the development of programs for students.
As part of this collaboration, students of the University of West Attica will visit the Italgas Heritage Lab in Turin, where they will have the opportunity to gain first-hand experience of innovative methodologies and tools for digitizing archival material, acquiring valuable knowledge and experience.
The Scientific Director of the University of West Attica’s Internship Programme 2025–2027, Associate Professor Giannis Stogiannidis, stated: «The collaboration between the University of West Attica and the company Enaon will have multiple benefits in the field of energy. At this point in time, the company is taking an important step by implementing a digital repository, where archival materials documenting the history of gaseous forms of energy in Greece will be made publicly accessible. The University will contribute to this initiative through the scientific supervision of the project, while the company will provide training to young archivists in repository design, as well as in the selection and presentation of archival material. The partnership with two key archival institutions — the General State Archives and the Historical Archive of the National Bank of Greece — in locating archival documents further underscores the project’s significance for citizens and for the preservation of the historical heritage of natural gas».
The meeting was also attended by the Head of the Department of Archival, Library and Information Studies of the School of Administrative, Economic and Social Sciences, Associate Professor Dimitrios Kouis and the Head of Communication and Sustainability Division of Enaon, Ms Katerina Stachtari. By signing the Memorandum, both parties reaffirm their commitment to highlight the heritage associated with the development of the natural gas sector, to generate new knowledge, and to disseminate results for the benefit of society.
