AMTH: New Timetables for the development of the Natural Gas Distribution Network infrastructure – Orestiada as a main focus of the activities

In Orestiada, works on the CNG station are being completed and the network will be gradually activated from the beginning of November

The development of the natural gas distribution network in the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace (AMTH) is entering a new “trajectory”, by Enaon EDA, Hellenic Gas Distribution Company, a subsidiary of Enaon of the Italgas Group as the main developer, which has set as a priority the implementation of the works with commitment to the new agreed schedules, so that more and more citizens of the peripheral region can benefit from the use of a cleaner and more economical form of energy.

The implementation of the projects is underway in six cities of the Region – Orestiada, Drama, Xanthi, Kavala, Komotini and Alexandroupolis – in accordance with the Company’s updated planning.

In this context, in Orestiada the necessary preparatory work for the activation of the CNG natural gas decompression station will be completed at the end of October and the gas distribution network will be gradually activated from the beginning of November.

It is noted that in Orestiada, the low pressure network, 57 km long, within the urban fabric of the city has already been constructed and high interest from residents for connection has been registered. To date, 210 applications of interest have been submitted and 95 contracts for connection to the network have been signed.

Orestiada will be supplied with CNG technology in accordance with the highest safety standards as well as the legislation in force which is used to supply areas that are remote from the national gas transmission system.

At the same time, in Xanthi, network construction work are reset by the end of October, with the construction of 55 new kilometres of low pressure network. Priority will be given to the construction of consumer supplies and connections so that the local community can enjoy the benefits of natural gas as soon as possible.

In Drama, network construction work continues with new resources aiming at providing faster service to consumers, with the construction of 75 new kilometres of low pressure network and at least 2,200 new consumer connections from the residential, commercial and industrial sectors.

Work is also progressing at a steady pace in Kavala with the construction of 37 new kilometres of low pressure network, in Komotini with the construction of 46 new kilometres of network and in Alexandroupolis with the construction of 57 new kilometres of low pressure network.

The gas distribution network development projects in the above six cities of the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace have a total budget of €49 million and are co-financed by the Company’s own funds and NSRF resources. Within the framework of the co-financed projects, Enaon EDA offers a 100% discount on the connection fees to all consumers.

The projects, which have a completion horizon of 2026, provide for the construction of a total of 496 km of low and medium pressure network and 11,426 residential, commercial and industrial consumers connections. After their completion, the expansion of the distribution network will continue on the basis of the demand for new connections.

To date, the construction of a total 263 km of low and medium pressure network is underway, while about 4,600 connection contracts have been signed and are underway for activation according to the network plan and as required by the respective regulatory framework.
