Τhe flame-lighting ceremony of natural gas in Giannitsa was held yesterday, in the presence of CEO of Enaon EDA, Francesca Zanninotti and the Mayor of Pella, Stathis Fountoukidis
The start for the supply of the city of Giannitsa with natural gas was marked by the symbolic flame-lighting ceremony held yesterday in the presence of Ms Francesca Zanninotti, CEO of Enaon EDA, Hellenic Gas Distribution Company, a subsidiary of Enaon and the Mayor of Pella, Mr Stathis Fountoukidis, as well as representatives of the economic and social life of the area.
The project to bring natural gas to Giannitsa is an important milestone for the access of households and businesses in the region to a cleaner and more affordable form of energy, with multiple benefits for the local community and the environment.
The construction of 45 km of low and medium pressure network has been completed in Giannitsa. Already, high demand has been recorded as more than 350 contracts have been signed for connection to the network, while another almost 320 applications of interest have been submitted. The first consumer connections have been constructed too and work is continuing consistently to meet a significant part of the energy needs of the residents.
Giannitsa will be supplied with virtual interconnection through the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) station, putting an end at the energy isolation for the region, which is remote from the national gas transmission system.
The gas distribution infrastructure development project in Giannitsa and Veroia has a total budget of EUR 7.5 million and is co-financed by the Company’s funds and resources from the Operational Programme of the Region of Central Macedonia (NSRF 2014-2020).
Ms Francesca Zanninotti, CEO of Enaon EDA, highlighted:
“The actions required to activate the network in Giannitsa have been successfully completed and, now, we are proceeding with consistency and determination to implement our planning for consumer connections, so that they can enjoy the benefits of natural gas as soon as possible. The project will change the lives of the residents of Giannitsa for the better, while supporting businesses, ensuring sustainable energy solutions for the local community and the environment. I would like to thank the Aythority of the Region of Central Macedonia, the Mayor of Pella and all local stakeholders for their cooperation and assistance and, of course, the local community that has embraced the project, already showing a keen interest in gaining access to a cleaner and more efficient form of energy, which will lead Giannitsa into a new energy era”.
For his part, the Mayor of Pella, Mr. Stathis Fountoukidis, said:
“The activation of the natural gas network in Giannitsa marks a new era for our Municipality. It is a project of strategic importance that meets the needs of modern society, promoting economic development and improving the quality of life of citizens. The use of natural gas offers significant cost savings for households and businesses, while contributing to the protection of the environment through the reduction of pollutant emissions.
This day seals our commitment to a sustainable and innovative future, with infrastructure that meets the needs of our time. We would like to thank all the stakeholders who have worked methodically to implement this important project. We continue to invest in interventions that will make the Municipality of Pella a model of development and progress”.
