Enaon EDA: Proceeding with the implementation of the project in Katerini with new agreed-upon timelines and intensified work efforts

Meeting between the CEO of Enaon EDA, Mrs. Francesca Zanninotti, and the Mayor of Katerini, Mr. Ioannis Ntoumos

The progress of the construction project for the natural gas distribution network in the city of Katerini, with the new agreed-upon timelines and intensified work efforts, was the focus of the meeting held today by Mrs. Francesca Zanninotti, CEO of Enaon EDA, Hellenic Gas Distribution Company, a subsidiary of Enaon, part of the Italgas group, with the Mayor of Katerini, Mr. Ioannis Ntoumos.

In an atmosphere of constructive dialogue, the CEO of Enaon EDA assured the Mayor of Katerini that the company is proceeding with the implementation of the project in line with the updated schedule, while adhering to the highest standards of safety and quality.

Our primary concern is the seamless implementation of the natural gas distribution network construction project in Katerini, so that more and more citizens can benefit from the use of a cleaner and more cost-effective energy source. With intensive work rates and in coordination with the projects planned and developed by the municipal authority, we are moving forward with the network’s expansion, always taking into account both the construction activities that are appropriate for development in the city and the construction pace that the company can realistically maintain within a given time frame, alongside the development of networks in other geographical areas as part of its investment program.” Mrs. Zanninotti noted.

On his part, the Mayor of Katerini, Mr. Ioannis Ntoumos, emphasized: “The arrival of natural gas will give a new breath to our city, contributing both to ensuring affordable energy for households and businesses, and to the protection of the environment. I believe it is a decisive step towards a more sustainable future for our city, meeting a long-standing demand of our citizens. The municipal authority stands by this important project and is in constant communication with Enaon EDA so that the planning of the project is implemented in a coordinated manner, with all the safety measures foreseen and with the least possible disturbance to citizens.” Mr. Ntoumos also stressed that since the project is in full progress, it is important for citizens to express their interest at this stage and sign contracts for connection to the natural gas distribution network, as this will minimize the disruptions in the areas where the  network is being developed, while also preventing further strain on the road network due to additional cuts after the construction project is completed. “It is in our schedule and our priority that the restoration of the road network will follow immediately after the completion of the works.” the Mayor stressed.

The project for the development of the gas distribution network in Katerini, as well as in the city of Alexandria, has a total budget of €14.3 million and is co-financed by the company’s own capital and funds from the  NSRF (National Strategic Reference Framework), through the Operational Program of the Central Macedonia Region.

With co-financing from Greece and the European Union, the project began with NSRF funds 2014-2020 and will be completed through the Central Macedonia 2021-2027 Program.

It is worth noting that, as part of the co-financed project, there is a 100% discount on connection fees for all residential and commercial consumers.

In Katerini, the project involves the construction of a total of 120 km of low- and medium-pressure network and the connection of more than 3,300 consumers across all categories (residential, commercial, industrial).

The demand for connection to the natural gas distribution network is high, as more than 250 connection contracts have been signed in the first quarter of 2025, which are currently in the activation process.

Increased interest is also being shown by the industrial sector three industries are already connected to the network as well as by public and municipal buildings. In this context, six municipal buildings, including the Katerini Swimming Pool, is planned to be connected to the network with immediate priority.
