The inauguration of the Enaon booth, the Sustainable Networks Company, at the 88th Thessaloniki International Fair, was announced by the CEO, Ms Barbara Morgante on Saturday, September 7, 2024, in the presence of the Minister of Environment and Energy, Mr. Thodoros Skylakakis and the Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy, Mrs. Alexandra Sdoukou.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Italian Ambassador to Greece, Mr. Paolo Cuculi, the President of RAAEY, Dr. Athanasios Dagoumas and the 2nd Vice-President of RAΑΕΥ, Mr. Dimitrios Fourlaris, as well as distinguished representatives of political life, local government and other institutional bodies.

The guests were welcomed at the booth 10/ stand 20 of the Greek companies of the Italgas Group, by the CEO of Enaon, Ms Barbara Morgante and the CEO of the subsidiary Enaon EDA, Ms Francesca Zanninotti.

In his address, the Minister of Environment and Energy, Mr.Thodoros Skylakakis, after thanking the management of Enaon for the invitation to attend the inauguration, referred to the decisive role that natural gas plays in the process of the country’s energy transition, stressing, among other things: «Our effort with natural gas, which is a transition fuel, is not a transitional effort. It is an effort that has permanency because in the natural gas networks we aim to have -as the years go by- both biomethane, which has to be developed, and gradually hydrogen. The “key” to making these investments fruitful is not to build two networks. The main advantage that natural gas has today is that a large network, a huge infrastructure, has been completed. This infrastructure must be exploited to achieve the “green” transition».

For her part, the Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy, Mrs. Alexandra Sdoukou, referred to the social dimension of Enaon EDA Development Programme for the period 2024-2028, emphasizing: «The development of natural gas distribution infrastructure by Enaon has a significant social impact, as it is planned to connect 290,000 new consumers across Greece by 2028, increasing the total number of households and businesses that will be benefited to over 1,100,000. By the end of 2024, 12 new regions, such as Grevena, Livadia, Kastoria, Giannitsa and the Industrial Area of Patras, will have access to natural gas. In 2025, an additional 7 cities, such as Patras, Agrinio, and Ioannina, will be supplied with natural gas, widening access for local communities and improving the quality of life of citizens. With the expansion of networks and the supply of cleaner, more economical energy, these investments offer new opportunities for households, industries and public infrastructure. At the same time, the use of environmentally friendly fuels promotes sustainability, reduces energy costs and enhances energy equity in remote areas of the country».

The Italian Ambassador to Greece, Mr. Paolo Cuculi, recalled that when he first took up his duties he participated in the event for the presentation of the new identity of the Greek companies of the Italgas group, Enaon and Enaon EDA, emphasizing:  “The Enaon story is a success story of partnership between Italy and Greece in the energy sector, which is crucial for the sustainable development of both countries. I am very glad that Italgas, through Enaon, has decided to invest in Greece and is committed to providing affordable energy to both citizens and businesses in Greece. The cooperation with the Greek State is excellent and the Italian Embassy will do its utmost to facilitate even further the cooperation between Greece and Italy”.

For her part, Enaon’s CEO Ms. Barbara Morgante expressed her warm thanks to the Minister of Environment and Energy, Mr. Thodoros Skylakakis, the Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy, Mrs. Alexandra Sdoukou, the Italian Ambassador to Greece, Mr. Paolo Cuculi, as well as all the distinguished guests who attended the inauguration, but also the citizens who visit the stand to be informed about the company’s work.“By adopting the values of the parent group Italgas, our goal is to meet the energy needs of the inhabitants of the entire Greek territory. We want to contribute to the country’s energy transition and help Greece achieve the goals set by the Greek government and the European Union. In this context, in the recent past we have accelerated the process of connecting new areas of the country to the natural gas network and we intend to continue in this direction in the future. Our network will be digital and innovative, capable of distributing renewable gases, such as biomethane and, in the future, hydrogen, making a catalytic contribution to Greece’s green transition” Ms. Morgante pointed out. She also highlighted the hard work and dedication of the company’s employees and partners, expressing her gratitude to them.

Enaon’s s presence in TIF 2024 highlights the company’s determination to contribute to building a sustainable future in Greece by investing in cutting-edge technologies and innovative energy operations. Visitors can get more information about Enaon’s mission in the gas distribution and renewable gas sector at booth 10/stand 20 throughout the TIF (until Sunday 15 September 2024).
