March 13, 2024

Constructive meeting between enaon EDA CEO Ms. Francesca Zanninotti and the Regional Governor of Western Macedonia Mr. Georgios Amanatidis

The progress of implementation of the development projects of the natural gas distribution network in the Region of Western Macedonia was at the center of the meeting held today 12th of March 2024 by the CEO of the Hellenic Gas Distribution Company, Enaon EDA Ms. Francesca Zanninotti with the Regional Governor of Western Macedonia Mr. Georgios Amanatidis.

Mrs. Zanninotti presented to the Regional Authority the timetable for the implementation of the projects in Western Macedonia, while she announced the arrival of natural gas in the city of Grevena, as the construction works of an important part of the natural gas distribution network have been completed and the Company is ready to proceed with consumer connections.

The interest of the residents of Grevena in connecting to the network is already particularly high. For this purpose, the company will be next to the citizens, with the mobile consumer service unit, in the city of Grevena, in order to inform the citizens and process their requests for connection to the Natural Gas network. It is indicative that to date 649 applications for connection to the network have been signed, which include households, businesses, but also municipal buildings, such as the General Hospital of Grevena, the Municipal Stadium of Grevena “Miltos Tendoglou”, the Municipal Indoor Gymnasium of Grevena, as well as primary and secondary schools.

It is worth mentioning that during the meeting, a contract was signed between the two sides for the connection of the “Kostas Taliadouris” Administration Office of the Regional Unit of Grevena with the natural gas distribution network, in the city with significant saving benefits both for the local government, limiting related expenses and streamlining costs, but also benefits for the environment by creating sustainable value in the local community.

Besides Grevena, in the Region of Western Macedonia, Enaon EDA, a subsidiary of Enaon of the Italgas group, is developing gas networks in Kastoria, Argos Orestiko and Florina. These projects, with a total budget of 33.6 million euros, are co-financed by the Company’s own funds, as well as by resources of the Operational Program “Western Macedonia” NSRF 2014-2020 and Business Program “Competitiveness, Entrepreneurship, Innovation”.

“The residents of Grevena have now access to an affordable, easy-to-use, measurable, andcontinuously available source of energy” said Ms. Zanninotti and added: “Using the experience of Italgas, we are developing cutting-edge digital networks, ready to immediately welcome renewable gases, such as biomethane and, when the time is right, green hydrogen, thus contributing to the national effort for a smooth transition of the region to the post-lignite era. I would like to warmly thank the Regional Governor of Western Macedonia, Mr. Georgios Amanatidis, as well as all the local bodies and, of course, the residents who are helping in the implementation of this important project that will bring benefits to citizens, businesses, the environment and the development of the region”.

The Regional Governor of Western Macedonia Mr. Amanatidis underlined: “The meeting with the CEO of Enaon EDA took place in a constructive atmosphere and with the common understanding that the arrival of natural gas in Western Macedonia will bring significant benefits to the local community. In this regard, we agreed on the need to find resources, in cooperation with the relevant institutional parties, to implement subsidy programmes for residents interested in replacing their existing heating systems with natural gas systems in other towns of the region, such as Grevena, Kastoria and Argos Orestiko, in addition to Florina, where a corresponding subsidy programme is underway. At the same time, we are taking all the necessary steps for the energetic upgrading of the region’s buildings, examining the possibility of connecting them to the natural gas distribution networks being developed in the region, with the aim of rationalising energy costs and protecting the environment”. During the meeting that the CEO of Enaon EDA Ms. Francesca Zanninotti had with the Regional Governor of Western Macedonia Mr. Georgios Amanatidis, the intention between the two sides to strengthen cooperation through a continuous dialogue process aimed at satisfying the needs of the citizens was confirmed. In this context, the creation of sustainable value through the Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives that the company undertakes, is of utmost importance, assisting in the work of the region, not only with an environmental but also with a social footprint, listening to the needs of local social structures.
